Would it surprise you to know that social media has been in existence for less than 20 years? And yet social media influences almost every aspect of our lives. Social media has shaped our world in ways traditional marketing never could.

Traditional marketing, a one-way communication, involves using print advertising such as billboards, magazines, and newspapers, along with video advertising such as television and radio commercials. The purpose is to send a message and for that message, in return, to make a product or person be seen as favorable over other products or persons. This type of marketing still has its place.

However, social media’s purpose is substantially different. Social media, by definition, involves two-way communication. This two-way communication is what allows you to shape and contour your message, your voice and your offerings to your fans. Using social media is an effective way to win over fans and gain new ones.
