Whether you’re just starting out and struggling to email your fans or an experienced band finally starting a newsletter, building a great band newsletter is one of the best ways to keep in touch with your fans and attract new ones. Today, we’re exploring the simple ways you can build a better band newsletter.
Consistency is Key

You should be sending out your newsletter on a specific schedule, so pick one that you can stick to. A monthly newsletter is perfect if you can always get it out, but a newsletter that comes every other month is perfectly fine if you struggle hitting send every four weeks.

Be Yourself

Especially if you are a smaller band, you should never refer to yourself in the third person or write an overly-formal newsletter. This is how you’ll be keeping in touch with people who know and love your music, so be yourself! Use “I” or “we” and keep things conversational in tone. Don’t be afraid to let your sense of humor shine through.

Give a Concrete Action to Help Your Band

Since everyone on your mailing list is interested in your band, they want to know how to help you succeed. If you have an album coming out soon, put the pre-order link in your newsletter and let fans know why pre-orders are important. If you are going on tour, let your fans know when tickets will be on sale.

Offer Special Access

Since the fans who subscribe to your newsletter are going beyond the fans who simply hit like on social media, you should make them a special offer. Some of the most common ways that bands recognize people subscribing to their newsletter include:

  • Giving a discount on merchandise
  • Sending a preview or demo track that hasn’t been released
  • Offering pre-sale early access tickets to shows
  • Linking to private YouTube videos like live versions of songs or vlogs
